Hello Charles Heitzman Sion friends. Those of you who know me know how much I have devoted my life Charles Heitzman Sions. My Sions came drirectly from Charles Heitzman. He was my mentor, friend and godfather. I have given much of my life honoring his name. Maintaining and progressing the Sions as Heitzman would have wanted.
I receive communication every day from someone regarding Heitzman Sions. Many times it is an "old timer" who knew Heitzman and shares a story. Because of this. I have grown to know Heitzman beyond my own experiences with him. Those experiences you can find on the net. Type in: THE HEITZMAN STORY.
One gentleman from Nashville recently contacted me. Regarding a photo of a man. He asked me if I knew the person in the photo. I responded, yes. How could I not? Yes. Ir was Charles Heitzman. I guessed. Because Heitzman appearing to be heavier and stronger. That the photo wasa probably taken in the early 1960's. As Heitzman grew older. He "shrunk" in height. Also lost a good deal of weight.
I was also elated to confirm. Realizing. I am the only person alive today which could confirm. Yes. This was definitely Charles Heitzman in the one photo. Why? Because I recognized that light beige sweater. I took hundreds of photos of Charles Heitzman throughout my life. In many of those photos he has on that same light beige sweater. He wore that sweater around the lofts. Many years.
What great fortune evolved from this. Was. This gentleman in Nashville happened to continue. Letting me know. The photo was of Heitzman in a home movie. Which his father had taken. Not only that. The gentleman sent me the movie to review.
I was more than excited. As I watched the movie I was showered with memories. The old lofts of Heitzman. Heitzman himself. In one scene. The man who worked for Heitzman caring of the birds. For many long years.
The movie itself is a classic. One of those old "family movies" from that era. Not some Cecil B. DeMill production. Nonetheless. It shows rare footage of the greatest racing pigeon flier to have lived in America. Possibly. Ever. At one point Heitzman had 41 lofts. I knew each one. Many were the military WW2 lofts which he had customized. His main racing loft was the single most iconic loft in North America, Every fancier knew that loft. Heitzman had many unique lofts. Beautiful. He wrote a book on pigeon lofts.
In the movie you do not begin to see. So incredibly much that was there. Heaven. Any pigeon fancier who ever went there instinctively knew. Heaven. The greatest pigeon library on earth. So much. His lofts and birds took all day to see. Heitzman telling one story after another the entire time. The day raced by as if you werre on a feathery roller-coaster ride.
